Amazing collection of 174 abandoned cars in London up for auction
For car enthusiasts, the allure of classic cars persists, even when they’re left abandoned and covered in decades of dust. Well, the Instagram profile London Barn has something quite intriguing – a collection of 174 vehicles set to be auctioned soon, all discovered abandoned on the streets of London, England. The YouTuber TheTFJJ visited the warehouse where they’re stored and showcased the forgotten gems.
Even though some of them are in a bit of a rough state, the location is a paradise for collectors, as restoration is a part of their lifestyle. The collection of 174 vehicles was previewed for some interested parties on August 30, allowing lucky bidders to place personal bids, evaluated by the owner of these rarities.
As shown in the video, the collection includes cars like the iconic 1974 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, which not only graced the streets but also made waves on the big screen. Another rarity is the iconic BMW M5 E28 in the classic green color, along with a BMW 2002 TII. There are also several units of the Fiat 500, also known as Topolino from the 1950s. For Brazilians, it’s impossible not to be captivated by some Volkswagen Kombis and the beloved Beetle in versions that even include a sunroof, not to mention various other units from Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, and Citroën.
After evaluating initial bids, the remaining rarities will be offered to the general public through eBay. On Instagram, the advice is to keep an eye on eBay in the coming days for posts marked with “Barn Find,” filtering for ads in the UK. Sales are open to the general public, and if any Brazilians are interested, they will need to handle the procedures and transportation costs to Brazil.
What catches our attention is how the discoveries of unique abandoned classic cars are becoming more frequent recently. It seems like there is an abundance of very old cars waiting to be uncovered in barns, garages, and warehouses around the world.
Collection of abandoned classics found in France
An incredible collection of 60 rare, abandoned cars has been discovered in western France. Most of the time, it’s disheartening to come across something like this – a collection of rare and expensive vehicles ranging from before World War II to the 1970s, found in original condition but in deplorable conservation. Almost everything is deteriorated, rusty, covered in vegetation – true gems of automotive history transformed into heaps of metal. A clear example that, from time to time, dreams come to an end, even when they are worth millions of dollars.
Roger Baillon was a businessman who ran an important transportation company in that French region and decided to assemble this incredible collection in the 1950s. His dream was to preserve the collection in impeccable condition and later establish a museum. However, in the 1970s, when he should have started realizing his dream, his company went bankrupt. He had to sell 50 cars from his collection, and the rest remained immobile for over 40 years. Now, they have finally seen the light of day again.
Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Facel Vega, Ferrari, Talbot, Panhard-Levassor, Delahaye, Delage, and even a simple Dauphine are some of the brands that would make any car enthusiast lose sleep. They are all there, deteriorated. However, the two diamonds of this treasure were in the same garage, side by side, and caused astonishment when they were discovered: one of the three Maserati A6G Gran Sport with a body by Pietro Frua, famous Italian coachbuilder, manufactured in 1956. Its value is estimated between $1.5 million and $2 million. Next to the Maserati, under a pile of books and magazines, appeared a Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder. It was purchased new by the actor Gérard Blain, who sold it to Alain Delon, photographed with it several times, including with Jane Fonda in 1964. Then it disappeared until now in the Baillon collection. This unique unit designed by Pininfarina is worth between $12 million and $18 million.
German spends $5 million to let a collection of rare cars rot on purpose
The owner says he has received offers from enthusiasts but has no intention of selling the collection, which includes Rolls-Royce, Porsche, and Jaguar. A collection of extremely rare cars stored in a junkyard is not something you see often – especially on purpose. This happened in Dusseldorf, Germany, where an enthusiast invested over $1 million (around $5 million) to let classic models decay in a forest.
Michael Frohlich, the owner of the collection, arranged each of the cars and added some characterizations. There’s a deteriorated Rolls-Royce with a half-cut doll of King Charles left in the back seat, as well as pieces of the Berlin Wall scattered throughout the property.
One of the rarest models in the collection is a 1948 Jaguar XK120. This was the first car produced by the British brand after the end of World War II. The convertible had a 3.4-liter six-cylinder inline engine, capable of producing 180 horsepower. A fully restored unit was sold in 2022 for the equivalent of $4.6 million, among others.
YouTuber finds an abandoned warehouse full of vintage and luxury cars
A YouTuber passionate about vintage cars discovered an abandoned warehouse full of some rare finds. Among the various cars found on the premises, Kenny Kaplan located some abandoned Rolls-Royces, Land Rovers, Mercedes, and BMWs.
As reported by The Mirror, Kenny shared the discovery on his YouTube channel, where he dedicates himself to posting about various types and models of classic cars.
To find the location, Kenny relied on tips from followers and, after some research, decided to personally visit the site where he was amazed to find an extensive collection of cars mainly from Europe.
With classic Rolls-Royces, old BMW Series 3 and 5, and various other models and brands, the cars found at the location are in need of a series of repairs and maintenance. Nevertheless, some models have a high value for purchase and sale among collectors and can be restored with some effort.
Rolls-Royce, BMW, and Mercedes fans can prepare to sigh every minute of the video. For those who love vintage cars, the highlight is the classic Rolls-Royce models.
Kenny also found some BMW Series 3 and 5 at the location. The cars have different colors and repair needs, but still catch attention for their class.
The big highlight is a Pagoda SL, which from a distance seems to be the most valuable car in the entire collection.
